Playa del Carmen

Located on Mexico’s Caribbean coast, 43 miles south of Cancún, Playa del Carmen is in complete contrast to its party hard neighbor. That’s not to say a good night out isn’t available here. There are plenty of bars and clubs to be found on the famous 5th Avenue.

Playa del Carmen boasts a wide range of water-based activities including parasailing, boating, swimming, snorkelling, scuba diving, and fishing. You’ll find plenty of good shopping, luxury spas, powder white-sandy beaches, top class restaurants, eco-parks, zip-lining, amazing caves to explore, and of course the Mayan ruins.
This really is the perfect family-friendly, safe, and exciting destination that combines culture, history, and modern tourism to create an unforgettable vacation experience without having to travel too far from your hotel.

Beaches

Playa del Carmen’s main beach stretches in front of its downtown and faces lively La Quinta. The northern end is recommended for sunbathing as tides can sometimes cover the sands on the southern end. Many resorts also have their own private beaches for guests.

Downtown Playa del Carmen

Playa del Carmen -5th Avenue

The town square, known as El Zócalo, along with the bustling 20-block La Quinta Avenida (Fifth Avenue), are considered the hot spots for souvenir-shopping, bar-hopping and people-watching. Avenida 5, or La Quinta, is the main tourist area in Playa del Carmen, and also the most expensive. If you walk back a few blocks parallel with the beach you will find the prices come down quite considerably. Recommended – Gourmet Food Experience

Nightlife

The European and American influenced nightlife here is one of the hippest scenes in Mexico with an assortment of clubs and music venues, as well as several beachside bars. Most of the action can be found around El Zócalo and La Quinta, but you can find better deals and lesser known hotspots along the beachside or further out of town. Recommended – VIP Nightclub Tour in Playa del Carmen.
